FUTURE FOCUSED COACHING // One student's story

When my Dad told me I had an appointment at Future Focused, I did not want to go. I knew my grades were bad and my dad was worried about my future. I had pretty much given up hope I could ever change and I really never thought that I would ever be able to do well in school.

But when I walked in the door and saw the surfboard on the wall and met the coaches there, I started to relax. The other kids in there seemed to be having fun even though they were doing school work. Even in the first session, my coach started to make me believe that I could do better and be happy. I realized life coaching could help me set goals and develop the skills to improve. I felt like my coach would help me start over and learn how to do well in school and feel better about myself.

And that’s pretty much what happened. We started off focusing on school because I needed to start doing better really quickly. My coach helped me set goals in my classes and then we came up with a plan so that I could actually do it. I started going to tutoring to help me stay on track and the tutor was really good too. He explained my work to me in a way I that I understood. Between coaching and tutoring, I was already doing better in school after two weeks of being there.

Then we did a personality test to help me figure out what my strengths are. I learned that I am good at paying attention to details, I am loyal and I am a good listener. We talked about how my strengths can help me in life and how I can use them to do better in school.

Then at the end we worked on my future goals. Before I came, I didn’t think about my future and didn’t really care about it. My coach helped me realize that it is important to know what you want to do so that you have motivation to work hard and reach your goals. Now I have a clear vision for the future and the confidence in myself to make it happen.

Coaching helped me see things in a positive way. I am now doing well in school for the first time in a long time. Before I went to Future Focused, I didn’t want to face my problems. Now I feel like I know how to handle hard situations and not just get overwhelmed. Future Focused really helped me turn my life around. Thanks guys!

Dear Future Focused:

Thank you for changing our lives!!

Before we were referred to Future Focused by Nancy Melbourne at JSerra, my son had been struggling in school for three years. I, myself was overwhelmed with the conflict, arguments and frustration our family had to endure daily due to my son's poor performance and lack of motivation to improve. He didn't believe in himself and didn't seem to care. Needless to say I was deeply concerned about him and something needed to change.

I must admit that in the beginning I was skeptical about the ability of Future Focused to accomplish the goals we collectively set out to achieve with him. After all I, his mother, had tried everything!! I even had doubts about getting him to participate in coaching and tutoring at all. The truth is that after three short months, his grade point average had increased dramatically. Where there used to be "D's" there are now "B's" across the board. My son has become empowered and in control of his own academic situation. Now, he really cares and is doing it for himself.

The coaching staff is truly impressive. They have unique ability to appeal to students and build meaningful relationships with them on an individual basis. Not only has my son achieved academic success, he has learned a lot about himself, his personality and learning style. He has truly taken responsibility for his performance, is far more motivated to succeed and most importantly... he's believes in himself and his abilities and has a sense of self-confidence in his academic ability.

I also wanted to take a moment to mention the quality of the academic tutoring at Future Focused. My son has complimented his algebra tutor often for his ability to isolate specific problem areas and address them quickly and efficiently resulting in the transition from "F's" and "D's" in the first quarter to "A's" and "B's" presently. After three years of poor performance in mathematics this change is nothing less than remarkable.

Once again, thank you for changing our lives. You have had a profound affect on my son's life. One that I believe will stay with him throughout his academic career. When he graduates from college and is well on his way to achieving his professional goals we will always reflect on Future Focused as a primary contributor to his success.
